He gained initial recognition as a background vocalist and arranger, supporting prominent artists like David Bowie and Diana Ross. In the 1970s, he joined Change and contributed lead vocals to hits like “The Glow of Love” and “Searching.” This experience paved the way for his successful solo career, establishing him as one of the most beloved voices in R&B and soul.
