The Art of Ernie Barnes: 2024 Wall Calendar
Presenting the 2024 Ernie Barnes wall calendar, a timeless tribute to a master artist, affectionately known as “Big Rembrandt” by his teammates and fans who emerged from humble beginnings in Durham, NC to become one of the most acclaimed artists of his generation.
Ernie Barnes was the first professional athlete to become an internationally acclaimed artist and was truly revolutionary in his field. His unique style of elongation, energy, and movement brought life to his artwork. His subjects, often inspired by his Southern roots and childhood memories, included pool halls, barbershops, porch ladies, churches, street singers, and sandlot games. His most famous painting, ‘Sugar Shack,’ seen on Marvin Gaye’s album cover and in the credits of ‘Good Times’ was inspired by a dance at a juke joint in his hometown of Durham, NC.
Our 2024 calendar features major holidays and a selection of Barnes’ remarkable artwork, including ‘Tunesmith’, ‘Lift Every Voice’, ‘The Bassist’, ‘Ninety-Nine A’Hundred’, ‘Anniversary’, ‘Pause Cafe’, ‘Sugar Shack’, ‘The Bench’, ‘A Day on the Backstretch’, ‘Porch Ladies’, ‘In the Moment’, and ‘A Joyful Noises’.
