Wisdom Bird African Mask
A circular/round African Bird mask by Victor Dushie that features different shades of brown, aluminium accents, etched dot motifs and a bird totem in the middle of the forehead that “whispers wise words and counsel” and is where the mask derives its name from.
The aluminium accents and etched dots motif represent African scarification. Scarification is a form of African body art that was used for a variety of reasons depending upon the ethnic group. The process involves purposely scarring the skin to create raised marks and/or complete patterns. Some ethnic groups used scarification to represent strength, courage and bravery. Others use it to mark milestone stages or significant events in their lives and some use it as a way to identify with particular sects, clans or families within their ethnic group.
This mask measures approximately 11.25 inches (height), 10.25 inches (width) and 4.3 inches (depth). It is made out of Sese Wood and aluminium. Weighs 1.2lbs.
