This mask features earth tones and aluminum accents. The aluminium accents and etched dots motif represent African scarification.
Scarification is a form of African body art that was used for a variety of reasons depending upon the ethnic group. The process involves purposely scarring the skin to create raised marks and/or complete patterns. Some ethnic groups used scarification to represent strength, courage and bravery. Others use it to mark milestone stages or significant events in their lives and some use it as a way to identify with particular sects, clans or families within their ethnic group.
This mask measures approximately 15 inches (height), 6 inches (width) and 2.4 inches (depth). It is made out of Sese Wood and aluminum. Weighs 1 lb.
Handcrafted and imported from Ghana, your purchase helps support local Ghanaian artisans, their family and the community.
