Exodus: The Eastern Gate II (Sudan)
The Eastern Gate is an abstract work of art inspired by the current crisis in Sudan by Samir Shareef, a Sudanese artisan. This exquisite masterpiece consists of a rich blend of subtle grays, serene blues, and pristine whites harmoniously interwoven with an array of vibrant and captivating colors.
It depicts a poignant scene of a united group of Sudanese people embarking on an exodus, their hopeful gaze set towards the eastern gate. The place from which they will leave their homes, embarking on a shared journey in pursuit of new beginnings and a brighter tomorrow. In many cultures, the “Eastern Gate” represents the sunrise and with that, it represents hope and renewal.
Each figure, though abstract, carries a story of resilience, hope, and perseverance. ‘The Eastern Gate’ transports you to the heart of Sudan and serves as a poignant reminder of the ongoing crisis in the country and the struggles faced by its people. It sheds light on the four million people who have been displaced by the conflicts between the government and opposition forces and over one million who have been forced to flee Sudan.
There is an urgent need for international intervention and support in the African country that continues to be ignored.
